Hear How Gas & Inflation Affect Plano Students

As inflation and gas prices continue to rise, students in Plano Independent School District (ISD) are feeling the pinch when it comes to their spending habits.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Plano ISD Student Council, nearly 70% of students said they have had to cut back on spending in response to the economic pressures.

"I used to go out to eat with my friends all the time, but now we're just trying to save money," said Katie, a junior at Plano West Senior High School. "It's tough because everything seems to be getting more expensive."

The survey also found that a significant number of students are relying on part-time jobs to help offset the rising cost of living.

"I work at a local coffee shop on the weekends to help pay for my gas and other expenses," said Jake, a senior at Plano East Senior High School. "It's not easy balancing work and school, but it's worth it to have some extra money in my pocket."

However, not all students are able to find part-time work, and many are struggling to make ends meet.

"I can't get a job because I don't have a car, and it's too expensive to take the bus everywhere," said Maria, a freshman at Plano Senior High School. "I have to rely on my parents for everything, and it's frustrating because I want to be able to take care of myself."

Plano ISD Superintendent Sara Bonser acknowledged the challenges facing students and said the district is working to provide support and resources.

"We understand that the rising cost of living can be difficult for our students and their families," Bonser said. "We offer a number of programs and services to help, including financial aid and counseling, and we encourage students to take advantage of these resources."

Despite the economic pressures, many students remain optimistic about their financial future.

"I know it's tough right now, but I'm confident that things will get better," said Alice, a sophomore at Plano East Senior High School. "I'm focusing on my studies and working hard to prepare for a successful career."

Overall, the rising cost of living is having a significant impact on Plano ISD students and their spending habits. While some are finding creative ways to make ends meet, others are struggling to keep up. As the economic pressures continue, it's important for the district to provide support and resources to help students succeed.
